The turbo button on PCs in the late 80s early 90s actually made the computer slower
The function of the button was to be able to make the computer compatible with older games which relied on a slower PC to time everything properly.
Why is it called turbo, I don't know. Maybe having the button off meant turbo and having it on meant compatibility mode.
